Executive Car is a premium chauffeur service in Los Angeles: airport runs, transfers and hourly charters, with the car matched to the party. Until the app, bookings came in through a web form or over the phone. As the only designer on the project, I designed the mobile experience that upgraded both.

problem: not a taxi

Ride-hailing apps taught people to expect a car in minutes. This service works differently. Rides are booked ahead, the car is matched to the party and their luggage, and the operator confirms every request by hand. Nine out of ten rides are airport runs, so the app had to put that trip first and keep everything else, like hourly charters and point-to-point transfers, easy to reach without getting in the way. It also had to feel premium. A booking for an executive sedan shouldn't look like a taxi receipt.

The client pointed us to an established white-label booking product as a reference. I used it as a benchmark, not a template, and spent most of the work fitting the pattern to this operator's rules.

• Airport first. The most common trip is the default path, and hourly and transfer rides sit one tap away.

• The vehicle is picked from passengers and luggage, with a clear warning when bags won't fit.

• Guests can get a quote without signing up, so the app is never slower than the old form.

• Return trips, booking for someone else and meet & greet stay out of the way until they're needed.

• The flow ends honestly: request sent, card held, nothing charged until the ride.
